My uncle have been facing difficulties eating. I was told it is probably gastritis. How does this works exactly?

It's an inflammation or irritation of the stomach linings. It may be caused by an excessive alcohol intake, stress, staying hungry for long or eating too much spicy foods. It can also be caused by certain medication such as aspirin and by certain viruses and bacteria. An example of a bacteria that causes gastritis is Helicobacter pylori. Gastritis can be acute (short term) or chronic (long term) and manifest in the form of burning ache or pain in your upper abdomen. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Gastritis over time can result to complications such as stomach ulcers, cancer or vomiting of blood.
